you make really good money after a long time of making low payed from like 7.40 an hour.after 7 years you will be making 9.25 an hour.after so many years you will be making the big bucks.I really dont think its a good trade to get into.

In the UK there is a vast difference between a Chef and a Cook. Chefs are trained and have certificates, anyones Mum can be a cook. Chefs though are traditionally poorly paid, some only get 12k a year for 48 hour weeks. Look at some of the job sites. the good money goes to Chefs with many years experience.

A chef, new out of culinary school, can EXPECT to make minimum wage, maybe a bit more. You need about 7 - 10 years ecperience before you get into the. $35,000 - $50,000 range. Only the most gifted of chefs do much better than that. If yiu have an entrepreneurial spirit, and want to open your own restaurant, you can expect to live for several years (and several bankruptcies) making ZERO as you dump EVERYTHING into making you restaurant grow. The restaurant businees is TOUGH. Ther is about a 75% failure rate for restaurants.

Hey Adrian, Whether or not you make good money as a chef will depend entirely upon YOU. If you cook good food you will make good money, if you cook lousy food you will only make minimum wage.
