Can people find out your IP address if you add them on msn messenger?

Anyone can know your IP address if they have a sniffer! It's not hard. With MSN, you can merely have a brief chat with someone and their IP will show up in Cports. The MSN server will be something like: 207.46.111.61 by2msg2104808.gateway.edge.messenger The number to the left of it is the IP. Above or below this will be another address usually in the form of: 123.45.678.90 userblahblah.myisp.com This will be the address of the person you're talking to, then copy / paste the IP into a locator program such as: http://www.ip-adress.com/ipaddresstoloca... It won't usually be where the user is located, but where the IP address originated from .. for obvious security reasons i'd imagine. You can always hide your IP from everyone by changing your proxy or using an invisible browser software.

Not true. And it's not true with accepting a file, unless they are hackers and they know what kind of link to send you in order to get the information. The IP address changes every time you turn your computer on. So it is hard for someone to hack into your computer by just wanting your IP address. Just make sure you turn off your computer completely every night by the surge protector. My husband needed to get into my mom's computer to help her fix some things, and we are in a different state. He was able to talk her through in finding out her IP address and gave it to him. He was only then able to log into her computer and see what she was seeing on her screen. Once you turn your computer off, and then back on, your IP address changes. On MSN messenger, or any other messenger/website, be careful talking to strangers. Just remember, they can be 'anyone' they want through internet chatting. So never trust a file you are not sure what it contains.

You don't even need messenger to find out a persons IP address really. There are many other commands and utilities that will find it. For example... if you go to the following website it will tell you what the IP address of your computer is and it didn't require messenger at all. http://whatismyip.com

There are many IP finder software and sites that people use. I'm not entirely sure of this but I think people can find your IP. If its a problem, you can download a software that blocks people from finding your IP or your computer could have a setting for that in security. Hope this helped you. Try googling it.

only if you REALLY know what your doing. i mean it is possible, but the odds are that whoever you are thinking of has nowhere near the capicity of computer knowlege to be able to do it
