Alpine touring boots?

Using snowshoes and ski boots?

  • so, i do not have alpine-touring bindings so i can not use skins to hike the back country. I was wondering if my ski boots will work well with my snowshoes?

  • Answer:

The Alpine Trekker is a good thing to use, look into that. Skins and the Trekker should run you anywhere between $200-$280 depending on the skins. I've never use regular or AT boots with snowshoes. Most are too big to fit in the bindings of higher quality snowshoes. They will fit in MSR snowshoes and lower end snowshoes that use more webbing and have less molded plastic. My tele boots fit very well into my MSR snowshoes and I've used then on several occasions. If the boots fit the snowshoe bindings and you feel comfortable, then go for it.

Most likely not. Your best bet would be just to boot pack the trail (ski boot only hiking). For a great fix check out the Alpine Trekker from Back Country Access. For around $100 turns your alpine binding into a AT binding for the climb, once at the top pull them out and your ready to rock the down.
