Tips for long distance running?

  • Answer:

start off slow. i know its hard but trust me it works. my best races i started off towards the back. Why? Because it is better for you mentally if you start in the back and pass people the whole race rather than start first and have people pass you. then, the whole race, just say to yourself "one more person." Take out the person ahead of you, and keep doing that the whole race. just concentrate on beating the person ahead of you, and you will quickly find yourself in front. good luck!

Pace yourself. Get at the front. Not first just up there with them.(so you can have them set as your competetion) Do Not Stop! When you are like 400 yards away kick up your pace a bit. then when you know you can sprint the rest do it. Do not look back or stop. Just think the faster you get past the finish line the less you have to run. Have something to motivate you. Like something that you love is at the finish line. I like to picture a taco. Lol. Hope that helped Cheyenne<3 Good Luck. =]

Try not to train on concrete. It is really bad for the knees mainly, but also for your legs in general. Eat lotsa pasta the night before the race. You need lots of carbohydrates(most runners call it Carbo Loading). Good Luck!

Pace yourself, just keep going to the end and don't stop. Think about something else to keep your mind off how tired you are. Just do your best. Good luck!

Pace yourself. If possible, keep yourself hydrated. Don't worry about winning at first. Save some energy for when your "2nd wind" kicks in. If you are talking about a standard 2 1/2 mile course, my fastest time in high school was 14 minutes, 7 seconds and I finished 66th out of 130. Not too bad but, certainly, nothing to write home about. The winners came in under 10 minutes.

I was in cross country last year, and when i started i was dead by the end of the day. but when i gradually increased my mileage, i found it easier and easier. after each running increment, put your arms over your head to open your lungs. this makes you run longer. it helped me a lot. also, you could ask your coach about tips.
