What are good science courses?

What are good courses to take in Data Science in San Francisco?

  • Courses may be degree, certificate, long term/short term programs, etc at universities, colleges, private institutions, etc.

  • Answer:

Stanford has the Math and Computational Sciences program http://www.stanford.edu/group/mathcompsci/ There's also the Insight fellowship http://insightdatascience.com/ For more informal learning, there are plenty of meetups in the area. I would suggest sampling from several of those and interacting with other participants to get a clear understanding of which directions you're most interested in pursuing: data visualization, predictive modeling, data engineering, etc.

The Berkeley School of Information has a new program.  The Stanford one is good too.  If you have an advanced degree I'd suggest http://insightdatascience.com/. There seem to be more people creating programs where they charge a heavy fee.  I haven't seen any program in that space that I'd recommend.

Cloudera's "Intro to Data Science" course[1] is offered throughout the SF Bay Area fairly regularly. Data Science certification is also available. [1] http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/training/course-listing.html?course=data-science&loc=San%2BFrancisco%2BBay%2BArea-CA
