What to do about waking up with leg cramps?

I'm not sure if I experienced the same thing you did, but ingesting potassium (like others have already mentioned) did the job for me. I eat a banana (and one multi-vitamin) every day now. It's been a long while since I've had leg cramps.

This used to happen to me quite a lot after long hours working on my feet and I know the leg cramps and sometimes even certain pelvic, back and hip pain could be so excruciating and nothing worse than waking in the middle of the night feeling like something got a hold of your Achilles tendon and twisting it relentlessly like a rubber band till you be screaming bloddy murder and crying and begging CUT EM OFF!!! (until you are able to manage to jump up and do the Mexican Hat danskie at the speedoflight). But it can happen as well to other parts of the body including those with more sedentary life styles from lack of proper stretching and good exercise as well as too much exercise. Best bet is prevention by making sure you have proper work shoes and try to get some unwinding stretches and a nice warm bath and massage if you can after a long day before bed. Even if you have to do it yourself. (um the massaging I mean, not necessarily the stretches or the bath haha :)

This happens to me at times as well an I have been told it is from low potassium. I get up and start walking around. It hurts massively but it works out the cramps. I started taking vitamins and eating bananas (1 a day) an I have not had any problems for about seven months now.

It"s a potassium deficiency. I get them too. Been sweating a lot? When they happen, do your best to point your toes at your head, with your leg stretched out. Afterward a hot compress is best. Get some potassium supplements, or eat a few bananas. Go for the bananas, potassium supplements can cause stomach aches.

For a temporary relief, press the bottom of your bare foot against a cold surface, like your bedroom's wall or floor, or the bathroom's floor. This usually interrupts the cramp, and stops the pain. Good luck!

you need potassium, bananas , potato's, are a good source if not get a bottle of it at the drug store and take one a day.

I don't know how any body could say it's related to your diet, if that were so, all of our forefathers would never have had time to do anything but take care of their cramps. How would have they ever done a summer of crossing the deserts? They didn't even know what a banana was. So here's how to stop those nasty things when they start. I just grab the muscle that they start in at the top and press my fingers into the middle of the muscle and hold for 10 seconds or so. It works everytime for me, let me know how it works for you.

Cramps might be from a potassium deficiency so try eating a banana. I hope this helps

CTC

You may need your potassium level to go up. If that is the case drink gatorade and eat bananas. See a doctor if that doesn't help.

grandma

stretch, drink lots of water and stop doing whatever activity is causing this
