I am not sure about the cheapest, accommodation in Paris is quite bit expensive, most people agree with that. However, it would be a good idea if you do a little search about place under budget through your search engine, via agencies would be good also. In Paris, I would suggest to stay at studio room for 2 people, this is perfect option for couple and relative cheap instead of hotel room. 29 sqm studio room in Paris cost around $100-$200 a day. You can use this site to search studio room in Paris : http://www.lodjee.com/paris Beside studio room, you can consider private hostel room. However, this type of place usually is full booked due to it's cheap rate. Youth hostels are probably the cheapest accommodation . There are 4 official youth hostels in Paris: Le d'Artagnan, Jules Ferry, Clichy, and Cité de la Sciences http://en.fuaj.org/ There are also some cheap hotels such as those listed here: http://www.venere.com/france/paris/?ref=29621#p%7C1;f:o%7Cvenere_ranking-t%7Call-z%7Call_areas-r%7Cr1-c%7Call_rate (you may select another price range) Otherwise , there are bed and breakfast such as here: http://www.willgoto.com/1/020588/liens.aspx The best hotel booking sites: http://www.willgoto.com/1/023784/liens.aspx .

If you have a friend to split a room with it's just as cheap to get a hotel as staying in a hostel. I've done both. Look on Orbitz and other travel sites for a package deal. Just save up the extra money and stay in the historical area. It's much better to stay close to everything. If you stay out of town you'll have to factor in metro $$ and time to the city.
