How can I improve my Freeview signal?

Would an Aerial Booster improve my Freeview Reception?

  • We were told that a signal booster may help the weak Freeview Signal for our TV! Any advice?

    An aerial booster will help improve reception if there is a reasonably good signal in your area and your main aerial is OK. If you live in an area with a weak signal, it might be better for you to have your external aerial checked to see if it is damaged or needs to be upgraded to receive Freeview; if it does need upgrading, then a booster won't be of any help to you at the moment. Aerial boosters only compensate for signal loss when using long cable connections, etc. If you do not have a strong signal received by your aerial, then a booster will not be of use.

The trouble is you will only know if you try. The good news is that when they turn off the analogue transmissions in your area they will increase the power of the digital signals. Any increase in the digital signal will interfere with the existing analogue transmission, so that is why it can't be done now. If the booster doesn't work and you can't wait for the power increase you could consider satellite. I have seen kits for £40 recently and if you DIY that is all it will cost to receive all the digital channels on Freesat. See link below. Setting up a dish is well within the scope of a DIY person. It does need patience to align the dish, but I did it ok with no previous experience. Search the net for tutorials.

Potentially yes, but you may find you also need a better aerial, although seeing as a booster is less costly it is worth trying that first.
