My PC goes in Standby mode?

Is it ok to leave my PC on during the day & all night while I sleep. It goes into hibernation mode.?

  • I use Magic Jack (phone plugs into PC), which only works if PC is ON. My updates run in middle of night. Common sense tells me leaving it on 24/7 will cause my PC to breakdown ...show more

  • Answer:

Yes and No depending on what you want? When in hibernation the PC is still active and the processor is still in use but the HD monitor etc etc shutdown. So yes the life of the processor will age quicker but most chips are built for a 5 year life span of being on 24/7 so in all honesty its no big deal. Things to consider, it will use electricity in hibernation mode do you pay for it ;) Make sure the room has a fire alarm! Just incase.

Leaaving the PC on during the day and night wont affect the system..in organizations the computers are on for long time. just make sure you have right updates and the antivirus softwares are updated in case if the computer connects to the net whole night...make sure the security levels are good...

no, it's not okay to leave your PC turned on 24 hrs..machines break down when they are used for a long time and since computers are sensitive in terms of hardware temperature, built - in fans are not always enough to keep the hardware from exploding. in addition to that, like what the other guy has said, this is fire prone. hope that helped.

I do that often. try to close the running programs though.

Well I have kept my PC running continuously for many days in a row at times and my friend once kept his laptop running for two months in a row but nothing happened. Yes I believe that if your PC is in the hibernating mode it is as good as shutting it down. But still I think it is better to give it a rest once in a while.

I do and it never hurt mine.........

Scooby

nope you should shut it down its bad for the pc it will give you big payments on electric bills and lifespan becomes lower

Velocity

im sure that's fine because its saves time to load the pc up again saves power.

Ross

no it goes into standby. I recommend shutting it down every night and doing updates manually. leaving it on at night is A: a fire hazard, B: reduces life of pc drasticaly.
