What is the difference between front and rear struts? And where are they Installed?

Is it normal for the car to appear lifted temporarily after installation of new struts, with original springs?

  • i installed new front struts in my nissan maxima, and the front appears lifted like an extra 1.5 inches. is that normal? will it go away after driving the car a little?

  • Answer:

Usually, yes. The struts do not keep a vehicle raised, so it will settle. Make sure your springs are seated correctly in the spring perches.

Did you buy the wrong ones? That sounds funny.....Did the springs seat in the sadle all the way? Is there a jack stand under the car still? Do you (did you)have a big pet dog?

You may have to replace the rear springs. There is a slight chance that someone put the wrong struts on.

That sounds normal. Now install the back struts and you'll even out.

MoonWoman

Time to replace the rear springs if the front is now higher then the rear of the car. You rear springs are worn out

Yes, If the New struts are the Gas filled versions. As someone said, You may need to replace the rear Struts/Shocks to get the vehicle to be totally Level again. Shocks and struts that are Gas Filled, actually raise the car a bit.

Thats normal, it should settle in a few days.
