Aerospace Engineering : USA or Europe?
-
Is it better to pursue Aerospace engineering from USA or from Europe? I wanted to ask this question because i currently hold an offer from University of Washington,Seattle and Delft University of Technology,The Netherlands.Kindly help me make my decision and please cite all relevant facts. Also since most jobs in Aerospace sector have security requirements,so does it make it difficult for International students to get hired even after pursuing MS in US or from Europe. Thanks and god bless

Answer:
Aerospace work in the US is undergoing drastic cuts due to sequestration. The following article may be useful to you with regard to security requirements on aerospace contracts in the US. For the more involved programs technically a citizenship is usually required: http://www.smalltofeds.com/2009/02/security-clearances-in-small-business_01.html Many of the larger aerospace programs and even civilian projects are international in scope. The F-35 Fighter, the F-16 and similar programs are NATO birds and the new Boeing Airliner has a supply chain that spans the globe. It is feasible in my view to enter aerospace in the European market with a company like EADS or BAE and participate in the industry on a global basis. http://www.eads.com/eads/int/en/our-company.html http://www.baesystems.com/careers-rzz?_afrLoop=377574878030000&_afrWindowMode=0&_afrWindowId=player5prefix&baeSessionId=VQt2RQfHmThKTm2Y2y5cDdPqKXKvVFP2QXk7pJJL1phgLcsH5112!1524874388#%40%3F_afrWindowId%3Dplayer5prefix%26baeSessionId%3DVQt2RQfHmThKTm2Y2y5cDdPqKXKvVFP2QXk7pJJL1phgLcsH5112%25211524874388%26_afrLoop%3D377574878030000%26_afrWindowMode%3D0%26_adf.ctrl-state%3Dkx25ifdtn_4

I think both schools are great institutions. It is more a question of where you want to work. If you want to work in Europe (Airbus) go to a European school. If you want to work for Boeing Seattle going to school at the nearest school will give you opportunity for connections. Be aware getting a US person status will be required which is not awarded with degrees in the US. Most companies are prefer to institutions from their main country of business for no other reason they understand the educational basis. I have friends with a Diploma degree from VKI who get classified as MS degrees in the states because the 3 year Diploma program is an outlier here.
