What are some products or services unique to Australia that Americans might find very interesting?
-
I'm truly interested to know how everyday life in America is different than life in Australia through the products and services of each country. The products or services should be created in Australia and made in or from resources found in Australia. Any types of products, food, mechanical, apparel, shoes, jewelry, etc., anything you think is unique and interesting. Any services such as unique retail concepts e.g. coffee/tea houses, juice/fruit concoction outlets, grocers, consumer stores, or services Australians might find necessary that Americans may not.

Answer:
Unique food experience - Sucking up hot milk or hot coffee through an Aussie made Tim-Tam biscuit. Unique jewelry experience - Australia produces around 97% of the world's opal which is one of the 5 precious gems on the planet. Opals make for outstandingly beautiful jewelry. Here are our rarest ... the black opal. Unique shoes experience - Australia's Sheepskin boots originating in Australia to keep the shepherd's feet warm but which have been transformed as a casual fashion statement. Previously called "Ugg Boot" until some smart US company 'stole' and trademarked the name. Unique apparel experience - The uniquely Australian Driza-bone in which the world leaders are trying to look cool and relaxed. It's great for surviving the wet conditions of the Australian bush, particularly up Kosciuszko way where the legendary 'Man from Snowy River' comes from and worn in the movie of the same name. Keeps the wearer as "dry as a bone"... a bone that has dried out completely under the harsh Aussie sun. Unique mechanical experience - The Aussie Ute (pickup truck to the Americans) was originally invented here by Lewis Thornet Bandt in 1933 and were first built by Ford Australia in Geelong and also comes in the uniquelly Australian make of Holden. The rivalry between these two brands is legendary often used to define the Aussie male i.e. Are you a Holden man or a Ford man? Another uniquely Australian mechanical experience is to be literally blown of a two lane outback highway by the wind displacement generated by a passing Australian Roadtrain ... even scarier to be overtaken by one doing 100 klm. Other countries have these but Australia has the largest and heaviest road-legal vehicles in the world, with some configurations topping out at close to 200 tonnes. Unique service experience - Australians prefer to drink their coffee from independently owned espresso bars often tucked away in some hard to find places. Knowing where to find the best espresso from any part of the city gives you plenty of kudos 'downunder'. We did not take to the coffee chains which explains why Starbucks were forced to close 66% of their Australian Starbuck stores (61 stores) in 2008 due to lack of interest in the product they were selling. Melbourne: Sydney: Unique sport experience - Australians love their sport ... any sport and for a small nation of 20 million people, we love nothing more than to take on the world and beat them. Our own unique sport is Australian Football League (Aussie Rules) and we enjoy our sport in a very Australian way ... with non-segregated fans and crowds. Unique sport experience - Another unique 135 year old tradition is the race that stops the nation each year at 3:00pm on the first Tuesday in November - The Melbourne Cup. A race the American Mark Twain spoke of in 1895 as "Nowhere in the world have I encountered a festival of people that has such a magnificent appeal to the whole nation. The Cup astonishes me" Just about every Australian bets on the cup and for about 4 minutes we all stop work and gather around TV's and radios to see how well our bet performed. ... and finally a part of everyday life that is uniquely Australian is our approach to humor in that it is an ever present companion in everything we do and say. It is laconic, jam packed with irony and always irreverent, even on occasions when it shouldn't be. CLEO magazine, Aunty Jack TV show, Roy and HG at the 2000 Olympics, Circus Oz just to name a few. Here is the Aussie presenter Adam Hill explaining a few things about our and some other country's accents ... always irreverent.

In terms of service we don't get bothered every 2 seconds by the waitress about whether we need more water while we eat dinner. I know America sees this as good customer service but honestly by the end of my trip there I was getting so tired by waiters/waitresses always talking to me while I ate. It is good to be home and to be able to eat in peace without having to give someone an ongoing review of my meal.

Wedges with sour cream and sweet chili sauce, Pavlova, Aussie burgers with the lot (beetroot, fried egg, bacon, onion, tomato, and cheese), 2 for 1 happy hours, and Australian Superannuations. My Super totally kicks my US 401k's butt. I'm also a big fan of the BPay mentioned above.

1. Our dogs The Australian Cattle Dog(red) 2. Australian bakeries / cafes This is a niche idea for an american market I could see working in places such as Austin or California. There are a range of unique food items such as Lamingtons and flat white coffees that australians probably don't think of as distinctive. They are also comparatively cheap per item not to mention having a reasonable margin.

The sport of Rugby League. Americans often confuse rugby league with rugby union (it's like the difference between American and Canadian football - they're related but different games) League is the most popular football code in Australia, but it is only really popular in the states of QLD and NSW (along with Papua New Guinea, the north island of New Zealand and the north of England). It's similar in concept to American football, except that players do not wear protective equipment, play 80 minutes with very few stoppages, there are no forward passes and each team consists of 17 players only. Oh, and block plays are illegal. It makes for a very fast, free-flowing game. The World Cup is actually on right now and the USA are doing quite well. Check it out, there are a lot of matches on YouTube.

rugby league isnt unique to Australia. Like most sports it was kindly donated to the rest of the world by England. But im sure you knew that. I believe the best thing to come out of Australia was Latex Gloves.

The restaurant "Billy Kwong", run by celebrity chef Kylie Kwong, offers a new and unique Australian Chinese fusion, which takes on board sustainability principles like biodynamics and slocal (slow food, local produce) to recreate Chinese classics using ingredients unique to Australia, e.g.: Take the stir-fried vegetables, for example. Set aside all mental images of gai-lan and bok choy and replace them with sand dune succulents such as Coorong beach bananas (Disphyma crassifolium) and bower spinach (Tetragonia implexicoma), tossed in a hot wok and seasoned with organic ''white soy'' â shiro shoyu sauce ($15). It's all crunch and squish and deep, clean flavours and tastes unmistakably backstreet Chinese, yet it couldn't have been cooked anywhere but in Australia. http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/eat-out/review/restaurant/billy-kwong-20130204-2du8u.html

Can't believe no one has mentioned chicken salt. One of my favorite things to eat was a quarter chicken and chips with chicken salt. I just wish I could find it online
