Clothes for tall, skinny guy?

As style in general trends toward more fitted and tight clothes, what is a chubby guy to do, aside from become skinny?

  • I grew up in the 90s - it was all about Hip Hop and, at least for me raves, and the style was all about baggy. I'm trying to move on to more modern fashion choices, but I can't help but feel odd in these tighter clothes, which seem to accentuate my belly as oppose to down play it. How does one handle this, aside from losing weight, which is basically a different discussion.

  • Answer:

I ran into the same problem. I did lose a lot of weight (Slow Carb diet and a little exercise) but even before that I moved towards classic menswear - style rather than fashion. This meant proper shirts, trousers and denim.  Get stuff altered if it doesn't fit. It's often a false assumption that baggy clothes make you look less fat. Whilst they may be more comfortable they are often shapeless and make me look needlessly sloppy. Even before the weight loss I felt better in clothes I knew fit me correctly.

There's a number of things you can do. Try on as many different things as possible. Some things will just look right. Bring a woman with you when you shop. Make sure she can be straight up about if something looks good or not. Having things tailored might help. Layer Check out Spanx - they're shirts that make you look slimmer.
