How do I connect Macbook Pro to Home Theater?

How do you connect a Macbook Pro through a home receiver so that both audio and video are on the same channel?

The Mini-Display carries sound (at least is does when attached to the Cinema Display). I would think either your adapter cable isn't capable, or your receiver uses the old HDMI standard which was video only. You mention it's new, so shouldn't be the case, but those are the only two things that come to mind. Does your Denon have separate audio inputs for that same channel?

Do you have Apple TV?  By far the easiest solution is to just stream media (music and video) from iTunes to Apple TV. While not audiophile quality, very reasonable and much easier than constantly connecting/reconnecting your MBP.

The mini-display to HDMI cable you buy is important since not all of these adaptors will support sound.  I have the Griffin video display converter (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/video-display-converter) which also has a handy connector to DVI and works great.

The problem could also be with your HDMI cable. Not all cables support the newer HDMI standards. Check that the cable supports HDMI 1.3
