I would think either your adapter cable isn't capable, or your receiver uses the old HDMI standard which was video only. You mention it's new, so shouldn't be the case, but those are the only two things that come to mind. Does your Denon have separate audio inputs for that same channel?
The problem could also be with your HDMI cable. Not all cables support the newer HDMI standards. Check that the cable supports HDMI 1.3

If the projector is Airplay compatible, you might try moving the MacBook to the front where the Playbar is. Depending on the model of MacBook Pro, the current model already has three studio quality microphones built I and already support noise cancellation. I use a shotgun microphone with USB connection that is highly directional and blocks background noise very effectively. Perhaps your needs may be met with a Rode Podcaster USB microphone with pop filter, and a spider mount and microphone stand plus a sound isolation baffle around the back of all that to help isolate background noise. Maybe even sonex sound insulation panels on the walls.

after connecting, turn on the computer first.
set headphone volume to “zero”.
set the amplifier volume to “zero”. and input to “aux”.
then turn on the amplifier.
set amp volume to “3”.
cue up some music.
play the music.
bring up the computer’s volume until you hear something.
you have 3 volume controls—the computer system volume, the player volume, and the amp volume.
play around until you find the “sweet spot”.
in the computer mixer section, set all the frequencies to “flat”, or “zero level. this is the middle, not the bottom.
use the amplifier tone controls to adjust tone—bass, midrange (if available), treble.
“tweak” the sound quality from the computer mixer.
note—on the computer, there might (probably is) a system mixer, AND a player mixer.
set both to “flat”, and “tweak” as you go.
you will probably find all sound sources will have different characteristics. volume, tone, distortion.
audio, and video FILES will probably sound different from one to the next.
internet source sound will most likely present differently too.
different youtube files will sound different from each other, and sound from movies, news broadcasts, music sources will play differently. mostly volume differences.

if you do not have a regular old stereo system, components can be found at thrift stores quite cheap.
bring some sort of portable audio source (smartphone?), an appropriate cable (headphone to rca) to test the audio components you are interested in.
and there are many many used stereo systems out there too, if you know where to look.
JUST BE AWARE— please notice the size of the cable i showed. the 1/8 inch headphone jack is this little dinky thing connected to a very large wire. yes, there are smaller cables available.
the weight of these cables can matter when plugged into a computer’s jack.
so if your setup requires the computer to be a longer distance away from the amplifier, the cable/jacks should not have a lot of tension on them.
all computer jacks are very very wimpy things. make you cables as light as you can.
and route the cable(s) so they are NOT going to get yanked on, pulled, stepped on, or tension of any kind.

There are many affordable options available. Just contact any music store and tell them your setup and they will give you a list of options ranging from about $75 and up.
I suppose you could use the line input on the computer but in my experience the sound quality is very poor as the AD/DA converters are not really the same quality as a dedicated audio interface.

How do I connect a MacBook Pro to an HD TV with audio?
The easiest and most enjoyable way is by using AirPlay. Check out my response to a similar answer I just wrote.
Another way to do it is by hardwiring an output connection using say USB or Ethernet and you may need an adapter to connect to HDMI but this way you’ll always have to connect up to be tethered by an obtrusive/restrictive cord when you do it and not free to move about..
I gave up and bought an HDMI display, since those now range from really cheap and almost as good to less expensive but twice as good. Sorry, but Thunderbolt is not really a current technology so the support for it which was never great is dwindling rapidly.
That being said, maybe someone else has found an adapter that works? I dunno, the adapters I was seeing cost about 1/4 as much as a fantastic display with no guarantee that they’d actually do the job and plenty of reviews online saying specifically “don’t buy, this adapter also doesn’t actually work.”
You would need an audio extractor adaptor. Comes out of the Mac, e tracts the audio only portion, then you take the audio and put it into a Bluetooth adaptor which you can now sink to the Sonos playbar

Is it the BEST? That’s an opinion.
But it’s the ONLY laptop Apple makes that is going to be powerful enough to handle professional audio/video editing. And it has to be the 16″… even with all the options, a 13″ MBPro still isn’t quite up to snuff for those demands.
And when you buy your 16″, upgrade the RAM to at least 32GB… 64GB even better. And push the drive up to 2TB at least. (Unless you have T-Bolt3/USB-C external storage available.) Otherwise, you will quickly overwhelm the “stock” configuration options. (Note: The standard i9 and GPU options are fine… if you want to leave them as is.)

to drive these and your stereo in parallel.
With wired speakers? Yeah, sure.
With wireless Bluetooth speakers? Yeah, but more complex and might involve some timing issues depending on distance and Bluetooth standards.
With all the same wireless network speakers such as Sonos, Heos, MusicCast etc? Yeah sure.
With the random mix of any old speaker you happen to have laying around? Not so much.
Start out with a plan, then buy the gear to suit, increases the chances of success exponentially.

To repair the audio socket of the MacBook … try different earphones from your friends, or earphones from different phones, and maybe one of them is the solution.

AudioQuest DragonFly Black 1.5 or M-Audio Micro DAC 24/192, for 100 USD, maybe too pricey. But you have for 20–300 USD and more with amplifier.

The easiest way is to have an Apple TV hooked up to your TV. Then you can do it wirelessly through AirPlay.
If you don't want to shell out the $69 for an Apple TV, then you will need an HDMI adaptor for your MacBook, which will actually set you back $79 (so go for the Apple TV instead, right?).
It depends on the MacBook Pro. If you are fortunate enough to own a 14 or 16 inch version, simply connect an HDMI cable from the MacBook to your TV. If you are running the 13 inch version of MacBook Pro, you will have to purchase a USB-C to HDMI adapter.

There are USB-C to HDMI adapters that can be used or, if it’s a smart TV, you could stream them from your MacBook.
Unless your HD TV supports ISB-C display connections it is impossible. Buy a dock, use an HDMI cable and use the device with a TV.

You can’t do that, but you can use another USB output from the Mac to a Toslink digital optical audio fiber optical multi-channel audio to your receiver assuming it has an optical audio input.
You can either use a USB microphone or a better solution in my opinion is to use an external audio interface connected to the Mac via USB or Thunderbolt, then connect any standard microphone via an XLR cable. The reason this is preferable is that you can use any of the hundreds of microphone models on the market instead of being limited to USB versions, and those microphones can be used with any other audio equipment as well.
