What can I do about my toe spasming?

Pus is coming out of my big toe? Please help :(?

  • A couple of weeks ago, I had an ingrown toenail on my left toe (big toe), and I cut it (maybe like a month ago), but I guess I cut my nail a little too short because my nail is still shorter than the nail from my other big toe. Even though I cut my toe nail a bit shorter, it didn't bug me at all. My toe seemed normal until yesterday. Yesterday I wore my boots all day, and they're kinda narrow in the toe area. So when my toe started hurting I thought it was because of my boot, so I didn't bother checking until this morning when my toe was still hurting. I took my sock off and found my toe swollen and red! When I squished it pus came out of it from the edge(back edge/side edge). Comparing it to my other toe, you can tell that it is swollen. It hurts to walk. Since the morning I have just applied some povidone-iodine (Betadine) on it. I'm worried! This has never happened to me before!! I don't want to lose my toe or my foot :[[ !! I won't be able to see my doctor until Tuesday because I don't think they'll be there for memorial day. What can I do??? What will the doctor do?? Please help! The dark spot on my nail is nail polish, by the way) http://tinypic.com/r/3340sjm/6 http://tinypic.com/r/2rqj874/6 NOT MY TOE: I drew on a toe found on google. Yuck! Seems pretty clear that it's infected. Pus means infection. You may need antibiotics. Meanwhile keep putting antiseptic cream on it. I'm not in the US so I don't understand what Memorial Day is, but surely they have A&E depts and walk-in clinics open over holidays? And by the way, have I understood you right that you kept your socks on overnight and that's why you didn't notice how bad it was until this morning? If you make a habit of keeping socks on that long that'll be encouraging infection to hang around. Throw out the socks you were wearing yesterday.

This type of infection isn't easy to treat: antibiotics are usually required. That said, it can probably wait until Tuesday without getting much worse, and there's little danger of long-term harm. If you really are concerned, just zip on down to the ER of your local hospital or medical center.. now, before the Saturday Night Rush starts and you have to wait forever to be seen.
