Why do my computer keeps restarting at startup?

Computer keeps restarting?

  • I changed my desktop computer's power supply today, myself, and i am sure i connected it correctly, because I turned it on after having finished and it worked just fine. I turned it off directly afterwards, in retrospect, i should have turned it off properly, instead of just taking it off power. that was pretty dumb, but in my defense i was too excited that it had worked.. anyway, now it keeps restarting. It turns on and asks me to chose a configuration to start windows (XP). It recommends that I choose to "start windows normally" if the last startup attempt was interrupted due to power failure, so i choose that, and that's the default setting (I.e. it automatically chooses to start normally after 30 seconds) but when it hits the loading page, as in it displays "Microsoft's windows XP" with the logo, then it restarts each time. I have tried to enter safe mode, but the computer seems to freeze at some point after spitting out gibberish. I have two other options: "Safe mode with networking" and "safe mode with command prompt" I am not so experienced with computers, but i can manage as long as i have clear instructions. I have an intel computer by the way, in case it helps. and i have access to ubuntu software (not installed) in case this is an OS problem Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

  • Answer:

Okay first it is a good thing you can admit fault we will place it on no energy drink or coffee yet lol Secondly try checking the power supply in back and you should see a toggle make sure it it on the right wattage for your computer motherboard recommended is usually 110 volt I believe. Next run it in safe mode when it asks you then once it comes up check your computer to make sure there is no errors do this by running a disk check and also Look at your event viewer you can do this by searching for it or Start> run> cmd>type in eventvwr in your command prompt It should show you if you have any critical errors most likely it will say windows was shut down improperly but after checking that reboot and start it up normally your computer should run normal again but if not please post what results your event viewer showed you and I would be glad to help more and I hope this helps
