What is this card trick?

  • My friend was showing me this card trick, and in it, he pretty much spread his entire deck facedown out on the table. He then wrote a number down on a piece of paper and told me to pick the number card randomly. I picked a random card and he took it and looked at it without showing it to me. He then wrote a second number down and told me to pick that number card. I did this a few more times before he laid all of the cards down, and they matched the numbers that he wrote!

There couldn't be many ways he could do that. The most likely explanation is he forced specific cards onto you. For example, he wanted you to pick Ace of Spades, he would know the position of the AoS and force that card onto you. He would then know exactly which card you would've picked. There are many types of forces magicians use. There are two many to name but some common ones are the riffle force or classic force. For example, the riffle force, he would've kept a break with his pinkie and riffle through the cards, he would proceed to ask you to tell him when to stop. When you do call stop however, he lifts the cards up from the break, and if done with practice, can be quite deceiving. Take note next time Hope this helped.
