How to get money for charity by running a marathon?

  • Okay here's the story. I am doing a charity mountain trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in July 2013 for alzheimer's. I need to raise like £4000. Going through a list of all the various ways I can raise money I came across running a marathon as one. As it just so happens I am running Bonn (Germany) marathon in October so this would be ideal. Only problem is I don't understand how I raise money doing this. Do i need a sponsor? Who sponsors me, the alzheimer's charity itself or a random company? Where do i actually get the money from? Thanks
