About the IB (International Baccalaureate)?
-
So I was wondering about the International Baccalaureate and I couldn't find answers on the internet. Ohh and I'm in Australia but any answers would help :) 1: If I've completed year 10 in a public school, can I still transfer schools straight into a world school and IB program in year 11? 2: How smart do you have to be to get in? Like I know you have to have good grades, but like do have have to be freakishly smart? 3: What sort of exam is the entrance one to know if they'll take you? Thankyou so much in advance, it would really help a lot! :)

Answer:
1. It all depends where you are - if you go to the IB website, they have a list of all the schools that teach IB. You could just find the ones in your area and apply to go there. However, they would want to see a good academic record if they are going to let you into the IB program (that's if they are a school that does the normal curriculum and IB at the same time). Basically, you should be able to transfer straight into it. 2. Getting in isn't about "smartness" - they will look at your academic record, as well as other things, like extra-curricular activities and awards. However, to really do well in IB, you need a good work ethic. Someone who has good study skills will do better in IB than someone who is just smart, but doesn't work at all. So, no, you don't have to be some genius - you just need to show consistent performance. 3. The entrance exams that I did were like psychometric tests - things thaat test your problem solving, creativity, etc. A lot of the entrance criteria were based on an interview though - they put more weight on how you came across (i.e. they asked about my study habits, why I wanted to do IB, what my motivation was like, etc) And yeah, I'm from Australia too (Qld), so I'm pretty sure what I'm telling you is relevant. I'm not sure where you are from, but in my area there's quite a few public schools that offer IB, so don't feel like going to a public school previously is a disadvantage to you.

Other answers
1. Yes, you must apply, and you must take at least 2 years of the program. 2. Yes, you have to be smart, but it's that's not it; you have to have good work ethics, have motivation, don't procrastinate, and actually want to succeed in it, I think that's more important. 3. It's different depending at the school, but at I mine I entered in year 9, so they checked my grades from years 6-8 and I had to take a writing exam.
