Quitting abusive job respectfully?

Quitting my job after a week?

  • Okay here's the deal. I applied to about 20-30 jobs for this coming summer. (i am a teenager) --> I interviewed with Job A a month or two ago and it is my TOP choice job even since last year but I assumed that I had not been chosen. $10/hr, regular hours, no weekends or evenings, 5 minutes from my house, working with kids --> I was offered Job B and started working there about 10 days ago. $8.50/hr, multiple locations 20-30 mins away, doctors office job, i am the only person my age So Job A called me today and offered me the job and of course I said yes. But how do I go about quitting Job B? Do I have to put down this job on future job applications if it was less than 2 weeks??? P.S. I would assume I shouldn't give a 2 week notice...

  • Answer:

No you would not put this job down on your resume or future job applications since you have not gained any experience in this short period of time nor length of employment that a prospective employer would even consider. The two week notice is always the professional way to end employment but critical to having a future job reference. However since you have only been there 10 days and will not be looking for a reference I would suggest at least a one week notice. Many times an employer will just ask you to leave same day but in case he needs you to stay the week do so never burn bridges. Thank your current employer for the opportunity but you can, which is your decision, state i.e. need to take summer classes, must assist in the care a family member family member who is physically ill, or unable to work full time etc. Good Luck!

You must always give a 2 week notice. Don't slam any doors permanently shut. If you give less than this, you may be considered to have abandoned your job. I would say that you can do both jobs part time during this transition.
