I need some advice on the Math 1/2, World History, and Literature SAT IIs.?
-
I'm a junior in highschool, and I just registered for the Math 1, Literature, and World History SAT II's. I have a few questions about each: 1. I have taken Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-calculus, each of which I got an A in. My SAT 1 math score is in the high 600's, but I can probably break the 700 mark with a bit more practice. With this said, I'm wondering whether I should register for Math 2, instead of Math 1. 2. I'm currently taking AP English Language and Comp., and I'm in the process of studying for the AP Exam. Will working on the multiple choice practice sections for this exam help me on the Literature SAT II? 3. I am currently studying for the World History AP Exam. Are the World History AP and SAT IIs significantly different? Will my studying for the World AP exam suffice for the SAT II? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Answer:
1. Definitely. Math 1 only covers Algebra I, Algebra 2, and Geometry. Math 2 does that + Pre-calculus. Math 2 would look much more impressive on your college resume, and since you've had an A in all your math classes, you are definitely fit to take Math 2. 2. I just took the SAT II Literature, and am currently taking AP English Language and Comp. I've taken an endless amount of practice AP practice tests, and I always score around the 4-5 range, but when I took the SAT II Literature, I had a lot of difficulty. Yes, the format is a lot like the AP exam, question-wise, but the types of readings they gave you were different. There was a lot more poetry analysis, and figurative language. It might be more suited for AP English Literature. I'd strongly advise against taking this one (Unless you've already taken AP Lit). You're allowed to change your test subject on the day of the test without any cost. 3. As for AP World, I'm taking the class, and when I took the practice SAT World History on college board's website (Try taking that if you haven't already, 1st link below) it seemed fairly easy and similar to AP World. The U.S. History SAT (Which I took recently) was pretty much on par with the AP US History curriculum, so I would imagine the same would go for World History. Oh, and to get a feel of how you might do on the Math SAT Subject test, check out the 2nd link, which will give you an estimated score of how you'll do.
