Why is my keyboard typing the wrong symbols?

  • Caps/shift is not on or stuck or anything like that, and it`s set to the US setup. It`s an HP laptop, brand new and I think I may have activated some setting because all the symbols I type are wrong. It`s not even the shift versions of the symbols, but the faint blue ones on the keyboard that show up. For example, instead of a question mark, I get `É`. And the thing that`s bothering me the most is the apostrophe. e_e Since the symbols that are typing for me /are/ the ones showing up on the keyboard (in blue above the normal ones), not just random ones or anything, I don`t think it`s broken or anything. Does anyone know how to get it to go back to the normal symbolsÉ Any help is appreciated! Also, I`m using Windows 7 if that helps.

    Try Restore (restore the computer to a previous backup point).

some one is messing with you. I bet one of your friends switched the keys around to tick you off.

Holding down those two keys, set the keyboard to English-United States. Start>settings>Control Panel>Regional and language Options>Languages>details. Remove the one you are not using.

The key with "Fn" on it might be stuck as you have to press that and the other keys to get those symbols etc. Have you dribbled or spilled anything on the keys lately? You could try to blow under the keys (dryliy) in case there are some goo drops under it making it stick.

Start | Control Panel | Region and Language | Format Tab ~ Make sure your set on English US

Please double-check your region/language settings. In your question you said that "it's set to the US setup" but from the way you describe your problem, it appears you somehow have it set to a French keyboard.
