How do I add Citation Templates for a Wiki?

How do you add citation templates to a wiki?

• I've started editing a newly created wiki. However, it's severely lacking in templates; it doesn't have the ones needed for references. I tried to add those myself by copying them from another wiki, but they seem very complex. I copied both Template:Cite web and Template:Citation/Core but just copying them didn't seem to work, and unfortunately my knowledge of templates doesn't extend much further than that. How would I go about adding them? The wiki is http://www.thedeadlinger.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page (It's using MediaWiki software, by the way, it's not on Wikia.)

  Looking at Special:Version on your wiki, you need to at least install the ParserFunctions extension: < http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ParserFunctions >. You might want to check for more useful extensions at the same time by checking Wikipedia's own Special:Version: < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Version >
