Waking up frequently - is it insomnia?

Temporary Insomnia Ruining Life?

  • For the past month I have had insomnia. Hard to fall asleep, and wake very very frequently, never get that deep REM sleep. About a month a go I started researching on computer more at later hours on a new hobby, thats the only difference in my life lately. I stopped doing that though and still for the past month have insomnia. I have went to doctor and got prescription (zopliclone) sleeping pills, 7 days worth. It helps with not waking as much, but I notice im still not getting a good muscle recovering sleep with the pills. Ill be off the pills tomorow and my problem is still not cured. I get extremely tired and headaches in my eyes past 8pm, if I go on the computer for even 10 minutes that headache in eyes ten folds. I start to feel more awake around 10pm and not tired again till 1 am. This is not normal for me. Im used to sleeping 9-10hrs straight a night and taking naps in the day. Which even though tired I cannot for the life of me nap in the day either now. What can I do? Is this something that just goes away, that I have to wait out or what? Should I try and sleep when I get tired around 730pm even though its very early? I pulled an all nighter 2 weeks ago, and only slept good the next day but then it was back to insomnia. Should I smoke a lot of pot one day and maybe that would fix the cycle? Ive tried prescription sleeping pills, melatonin, tea, food, fapping, different beds. Nothing works>>

Not sure about you weight, but sometimes if you are overweight there is the possibility of sleep apnea. A doctor can do a sleep study. One type of sleep apnea may occur regardles of you weight, though. You mentioend you have taken melatonin. There are different types, make sure you take regular melatonin and timed release, which will prevent you form waking in the middle of the night. You can take up to about 10 mg of melatonin relatively safely (not recommended if u have autoimmune conditions). And make sure you start with a small amount an dowrk ur way up. Other things, likethe amino acids theanine might help. theanine and your medication both work on the same chemical in the brain (GABA) so together it might be too much....ask ur doctor... People say St jonh's Wort helps, but it does seem to have a lot of side effects.... for anything above check with ur dr. if u can take it with you medication.... a company called Life Extension, which sells supplemts, has people who answer questions over the phone in regards to supplements and medication combination (i am not here trying to market them andn do not get any benefit from any business they do). Also, your hormones may be out of balance. If cortisol is elevated at night, it might prevent you from having a good night sleep. not many doctors do the proper test for it, make sure they do a 24 hr one, or they do one in which your blood is drawn both in the morning and afternoon. Sometimes lack of testosterone can cause insomnia....don't knwo how old u r, so this may not be an issue. Exercise during the sya is always good...try not takw any naps during the day either (i'm sure you know this) Never tried it but people say acupuncture may help. Hope this helps

I had problems with this too, and I started taking advil sleeping pills, but I only used them for about 2 weeks, then I only took them every other night for another week so I eased myself off, and now I still wake up sometimes but not as frequently, and try not to take naps during the day, this will make you more tired at the end of the day, and this sleeping more soundly :) hope this helps :)

You are really having a bad time with sleeplessness nights. I faced the same problem few years ago. But now everything is fine. You need to make some changes in your lifestyle if you having trouble with your sleep for a long time. Talking sleeping pills, melatonin, tea etc. will not help you in the long term. All prescription medicines have side effects and our body develops a kind of dependence for them if we take them regularly. I suggest you stop taking medicines for your sleep problems as that will only aggravate your problem. Try to find the exact cause of your insomnia as that is the only way to sleep peacefully. Anxiety, stress and depression being one of the biggest causes of insomnia. Other causes may include condition of the bed, room temperature, any physical ailment or pain, excessive use of caffeine. You need to make some changes in your daily routine - make sleep a priority in your life, follow some relaxation techniques, join a gym if you can. Hope this helps!
