What is meant by homogeneous shear?

What are your views on the saying, "Whats meant to be will find it's way"?

  • I used to strongly believe, "What's meant to be will find it's way". But now I'm not sure. I mean you make all these decisions, try so hard in life to have nothing in return because..whatevers meant to be will find it's way, no matter what. So if you don't put effort into your school work, but you're meant to go to college..you'll magically get there? I'm just losing my faith in fate. What are your opinions on this?

  • Answer:

To me, it is another way of saying just be satisfied with what you have. Or to quote the Great Philosopher Bobby McFarrin "Don't Worry, Be Happy." I think it is a over optimistic saying. You are right, you do need to direct yourself in life and work for what you want. Really its just a saying used to relieve anxiety.

To me, this saying is most meaningful "after" the initial failure. Prior to the failure, one should always take the necessary steps to achieve goals. Then after they've done everything they could do to succeed, but still fail, then they can either try again or take the attitude of "what's meant to be will find it's way". In some cases this seems to have worked for people. When they stopped trying so hard and stressing out so much, they later receive so easily what they'd been trying so hard to get before. But just like the fine print in advertising, these results may not be typical for everyone. Some of us just try again or find another goal. Can't count on magic.

I think you're confusing fate with desire, and a happy, feel-good saying that has little relation to reality. Which is just my opinion :-) Have you ever wondered why, when people say that, it's always about good things? They never say it about being mugged or your dog being hit by a car. In your instance, you'd have to believe that your desires and decisions have been against what's "meant to be." You've been fighting Destiny. But no one puts it in those negative terms. It's always about happy things. Personally, I don't believe in pre-determined fate. What would be the purpose of living? We'd be no better than rats following a maze that's already been set up for us. With free will, when you screw up or things don't go your way, you learn from it -- even if it's just learning to accept a reality you don't like. Instead of fate, have faith in yourself. Your own choices, your free will. No one can control every factor in his or her life. We just do the best we can, and, when necessary, learn to let go. And then move on. Either way, even if fate does exist, would it have made a difference in your situation? The fact that you're questioning your beliefs is most excellent!

To me it means that whatever is suppose to happy will happen. No matter what the situation fate will have its way, so hope for the best.....ALWAYS
