Can you watch F1 on iplayer now?

Is it legally wrong to watch BBC iPlayer from India?

  • I live in India and I want to watch MOTD and Top Gear programs from here. I am aware of Anchorfree's Expat Shield software that will enable me to gain access to the iPlayer website and its content but I was wondering whether this medium is legal. If not, are there any LEGAL alternatives to access the iPlayer content.

  • Answer:

Simple Answers Legal : NO Other (legal) methods : NO (well apart from come watch it in the UK !) if the content is not available on bbcworld.com (and some like Top gear may be) Then the content is not copyright licenced for viewing outside the UK. That is why it has been geo-IP locked to UK IP addresses. It is also expected that most users will have paid their UK TV Licence fee to pay the BBC for the content (OK, I accept that not all wiil, and not all need to - TV licence is only for LIVE TV watching, not watch again). on the other hand, if the BBC etc were that worried about ex-pats and others using VPN (HMA, overplay, Anchorfree etc) they could take steps to block those IP's and other factors to work out that the location is 'probably' outside the UK also, The BBC is looking at paid for alternatives for non-UK/BBC world watchers, but none have been made available yet. So meanwhile - your choice ;)
