How do I clean grout off tile?

  • I had some tile laid in my bathroom. The tile guy got a little messy with the grout and some of it got on the slate tile. How do I clean this off? It has not been sealed yet. Note: I can't call the guy back up to clean it himself. Long story.

  • Answer:

    Any heavy grout scrape off with a plastic scraper or wood shim. The use of any metal can leave an aluminum mark which you ll never remove. If its a haze , 1st use a nylon pad to scrape and "dust" off the slate. If the slate was just installed, it should ve been sealed prior to setting and grouting. If this is the case, the slate might be permanently stain, depending on the grout color and the color of the slate. You will have to go to the tile store and get a chemical product that will clean it...it smells strong and is a lot of hard work. Next time hire a professional who will stand behind their work and do it properly.
