Is the GED valid in any state in the US?

Is it possible in the state of Florida to finish your senior year of high school if you already have your GED?

  • I dropped out during my Sophomore year in 2010 with the intentions of earning my GED. After spending 6 months out of school waiting for the processing to begin the actual process of taking my test, I decided to return and get my actual diploma. However due to my GPA being less than a 1.0 from my previous years, I would not be able to graduate. So I dropped out again and continued the redundant process of obtaining my GED. As of now I have taken the test and am waiting on my results. I am 99% positive I passed it. However, as stated above, is it possible for me to start in the fall at my old high school so that I may finish with my friends and get the traditional Senior experience?

  • Answer:

I doubt there's a problem. It would be most advisable to finish with a high school diploma as employers and colleges all tend to frown on GEDs.

They would not let you back if they knew that you had a GED. However, they would not know unless you told them. If you went back they would make you take all of the classes you missed so you would not be able to graduate nor take classes with the seniors. Congratulations on your GED. Go to Community College. While it is a different experience, it can be a good experience. Once you go to a CC you can put that on your resume and the fact that you only have a GED will not matter.

I doubt you would be able to get a HS diploma when you have a GED, but why not call up your HS and ask.
