What is Uploading and Downloading in Utorrent?

Does uTorrent give priority to downloading or uploading files?

• Okay if I leave some stuff downloading overnight with uTorrent, and I set the maximum number of Torrents to 5 lets say, and I have 6 downloads, when one of them finishes, will it start the one that was not downloading before and stop the one that is seeding? Or will the one that is seeding count as an active Torrent and stop another one from starting? Thanks!

  You gain nothing by setting the limit at 5. Your connection can only transfer data at a fixed max rate. BY setting the file limit to 5, all you did was divide the bandwidth among 5 connections. Set it to ONE and that will only connect to one source at a time. That way you do not waste time in overhead of managing more than one download. The total time to download 5 files simultaneously is longer than if you did the same 5 files ONE at a time. Your connection to your ISP is a one lane bridge, with alternating traffic controlled by your router and the router at your ISP. So, even if you try to download more than one file, all it does is take turns. The bridge is still one lane of traffic with your router and the router at your ISP being the traffic cops organizing the flow of data. Set the limits to one file at a time up or down. The software will run through the queue one file at a time for as many as there are in line. As for the 6 files and 5 files, yes, when one finishes it will start on the 6th. Still, you gain nothing by having more than one file in progress at a time. All it does is take longer because of the additional overhead required for tracking more than one connection in progress.
