How much does a RN or LVN make?

LVN to RN..smart choice?

  • My plan was to go to a private school and become a LVN and then go back to school for 1 year and get become an RN. My question is, Could I just go to the LVN school and then go straight to RN school, or do they look for people that went to school and became a LVN but also worked as one? help! thanks.

  • Answer:

Do the LVN (also called LPN or practical nurse) program at a community college and then apply back to the same college for the LVN to RN degree. The application process takes a while and you are more likely to get into an RN program at the same college you received your LVN at.

There is no work hour requirement since this is not an apprenticeship trade. But you may be interested in doing the LVN/LPN to BSN program of study instead. That would be much more practical. Lots of work involved. There are also programs that would take you to a MSN from another non-nursing bachelor's degree. After completing an LVN program, you would go back to school for a minimum of TWO years to get an Associate's of Science degree. NOT one year.
