Is this okay for building lean muscle mass?

Building Muscle Mass while running to get a 6pack?

  • Im currently trying to gain muscle mass and strength." Bulk up" But at the same time I want to keep my cardio up so I don't loose my mile time, while at the same time I am working on getting a 6 pack which for me it is extremely hard to loose the stomach fat. Will running say 4-6 miles a day make me loose much muscle mass/strength? I know running leans you out. My end goal is to gain muscle mass while at the same time get a 6 pack. whats the best way to do this? Thanks for the help.

  • Answer:

That much running will definitely kill your gains. Cortisol kicks in after about 15 mins of cardio, meaning that's when you start burning muscle instead of glycogen and fat. Your best bet is to run first thing in the morning for a max of 15 mins, as few times per week as you can to keep your times up. After that load up on carbs and protein to restore glycogen and preserve muscle. Lift in the afternoon or night when your testosterone levels are highest. Get a lot of protein and stay away from simple carbs. Weight lifting will burn more fat than running by raising your basal metabolic rate. Good luck!
