It can really help you to find a running buddy that runs almost the same speed as you so they can kind of encourage you to keep moving. Don't forget to do your 10 minute warm ups and cool downs before you begin to run or stop running. Put your mind to it if you don't think you can do it you probably won't cause your mind is powerful and can determain that speed and distance you will run. so just by beleiveing in your self you might be able to acomplish your goal! Also proper posture is really improtant when you run. If you run a lot of long distances and get a record at the long distance it will most likley be eiaseier to run a mile And also use a lap stragedy. I hope this can help this is what i was told and helps me when i run.

hey!

try attaching leg weights and backpacks while running. you'll build more muscle, because your body will be used to movign the extra weight. then when you remove them (for a race or time-in) then your body will have that much extra power. doing leg curls or a weightless variant may also help, and wall sits or leg press/goblet squats. also, some people think that running for hours on end, 6 days a week is doing good, but theyre wrong. if youre one of these people, cut it down to once every 2 days, or 4 times a week max. and no more than 2 hours, especially if youre only running a mile at a time. if you go for endurance, you can go for hours, but still no more than 4 times a week. your body needs the extra day to regenerate, and it builds muscle faster.

First off, do not run with leg weights. This will tear up your joints and will start giving you problems. Second off, if you want to run a 6 minute mile, think of it this way. You need to run 4 laps with each lap under 1:30. So have someone stand at the start line and tell you your split every lap around. If you aren't hitting the splits, adjust your speed so that you can. Don't start to fast but also don't start slower and run your last 2 laps faster. Pace yourself! Good luck!

I'm in the same situation... I should be running under 6 but my best is 6:08. my time got a lot better this year because my practices consisted usually of ALOT of distance. I would run a lot (3-4 miles) one day to get your endurance better, the next day probably 2 miles, then a speed practice. Hopefully this helps!

I run the mile in track, and the best thing to think of is to "lengthen your stride and shorten your turnover," as my coach tells me. This means to make longer bounds, but also switch your legs faster.
