What is the optimal training time for a combined weight training and cardio workout?

Should i do intense cardio everyday despite mass-building?

  • currently im fixing up my body to gain some muscle mass while at the same time burning off even tiny bits of fat to get ready for the beach in a month. my weight training consists of M-chest tricep W-Back Bicep F-Shoulder Legs and wholebody routines on saturdays. I take a whey shake after every workout. However, i was thinking, will heavy cardio in-between days like on T-TH-Sunday affect my body's ability to repair my muscle or is it safe to do? because i think i really need the cardio to burn the rest of my fat off and lean me out. on my rest days where i have plenty of time. So once incororate this cardio, i understand that interval training will eat my muscles less than long endurance jogging so ill be doing jog-sprints. After these 30min intense cardio sessions, should i bother taking a whey shake or save it for the weight-training days? thanks

  • Answer:

As long as you do the cardio on the days in-between your heavy workouts that's ok. It would be beneficial to take the protein shake after the cardio sessions as well. This will make sure you have enough protein to complete the muscle repair and recovery from the heavy workouts.
