What is the most popular scale for plastic military models?

Where to start on making plastic scale models/molds-?

  • Hey. Like a lot of others out there, I don't like to buy things, I'd rather make them myself. So my goal is to hand make a variety of 1:72 military models, and then mold them so I can make copies. I don't know how to do this either, so it would be great if I could get some info on what to buy and what to do to complete my goal -thanks so much.

Yikes... Okay, injection molding plastic, like most models, is extremely cost prohibitive !! You need steel molds, ejection molding machines, etc... that is why plastic models are expensive and made in lots of THOUSANDS to off-set the cost. One thing you CAN do is build up the model with sheet plastic, clay, and other materials (like Steve Q's link shows). Then you can make rubber molds, and pour casting resin (the favorite of after-market parts manufacturers)... here are a few source: http://www.reynoldsam.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL33dO8mQuQ http://www.alumilite.com/ I've done this with a number of models where the model was incorrect for the version I wished to build... OR where the model didn't even exist (I converted 20 1/35 scale UH-60L helicopters to SH-60B's) GOOD LUCK !!
