Is mumbai the new name for bombay?

i am really confused. i was looking for mumbai in an atlas, but i couldnt find it. then, i looked it up, and found "mumbai (bombay)". did i miss something??

Yes, Mumbai is the name for Bombay. Similar to how Beijing is the name for what was once Peking when I was a small girl. I'm not sure why some of these cities and countries change their names over time, but apparently they do.
