A career in Forensic Psychology UK?

I want to study psychology but am an international student?

  • I would like to study at a university in england. Im from south africa and have a EU passport and was just informed that i would not be able to pay EU fees as i have not contributed enough money to tax. I moved to the UK on the 8th of April 2009, and was informed i can only pay EU fees if I have been here 3 years or more. I am 19 years old and want to get my life on track as soon as possible. I would have to pay £10 000 a year to study whereas i could pay the £4000 if i wait a bit more. If i go to university now i would end up paying more in the future than if i wait 2 more years. I have done an OCN level 3 psychology and am in the process of a NVQ Level 4 advanced psychology. A distance course. Home based. I need some advice on my career. Also what could i do with a Bsc Psychology degree? I am in a rut and need advice. I am currently working full time in a pub which im training to be team leader. Let me just state that this is not the career i want and just incase i cant do what i really want. I will definitely make sure that it will not be. Im a very determined person and am self motivated. The reason i am being trained as a team leader is because i always want to have responsibilities and be the best i can be. I worked hard in my final year of high school. I have converted my qualifications and all seven subjects were converted to AS level 1. Im thinking of taking a an Access to HE Biological science. Im confused!!!

  • Answer:

You were given the correct information about the three year residency but unfortunately are going to get hit with the changes in fees as universities are going to move from tax-payer funding to student funding in 2012. As you are familiar with distance learning, had you considered the Open University? You will find the cost very reasonable, can work and study at the same time and the courses are very well taught. Think about doing Law with them, it does not mean you have to be a solicitor, it is an excellent business training. Psychology does not really lead anywhere unless you want to be a therapist although it is a useful background.
