What are the years in grades in america?

Why are American kids these days making such mediocre grades and not serious toward education?

  • I'm a high school student and i notice people constantly complain about their grades. For example if someone made a D, their first excuse would be that the teacher sucks or that the teacher didn't like them. It's always not their fault but when I ask them if they honestly did put forth the effort they will lie and try to lie to themselves again that it was not their fault. This endless cycle continues on and on until they dropout or graduate with a crap gpa. Some people don't even care at all. There's this guy in my school that has been in high school for 6 years and all he does is fool around and act like an immature kid even though he is like 2 years older than all the other seniors. I really wonder why he doesn't just dropout already. It really worries me that kids these days are so much more focused on what's on MTV or when the next party is going to be at. The economy is like about to crash and our generation still acts so spoiled and ungrateful To me everyone should be able to make at least a B-. High school (public school) in america is easy and no matter how unintelligent a person is they can easily make decent grades by working harder and not being lazy! PS: I'm not being harsh at all and everyone should be able to make at least a B- if they put in effort.

Well this American middle schooler is a straight a student. Some kids just don't do their work they are smart though. Don't call a kid dumb because of a grade. A grade does not show how smart you are.

well they are not thinking about their future and its not their fault the human brain is hardwired to only think of the short term future not the long term future if the schools want to encourage students to do their work they should put short term rewards (positive reinforcement[i know there's the candy jar but thats not enough]) instead of pointing out the long term future which seems like is never going to happen i am a slacker myself and i completely can relate to these slackers our education system is so faulty that it actually de-educates people and ruins so much potential and also: these schools teach concepts so inefficiently that no one can find any challenge in it so [I] feel no need to teach myself the concept by doing my homework because they overkill teaching the topic another reason they might be doing this is because they want to tell the system thnx but no thnx they teach us to capitalize and punctuate but i dont b/c its such a pain

None of this will get you a job anyway.

Aw yeauh

your completely right, I see it myself, people just whine about it and its even worse in some of my classes because loads of people cheat and so I will work really hard and get a B on an English Essay while others get an A* and my teachers both criticize me for lower grades and everyone boasts about their higher grades, the reason that loads of kids don't put in effort is that mostly they have everything handed on a late to them, when I came through school I did well because it was my only choice at a good life and some people need to work hard because of their parents and basically people who want to do well and make their family proud, but many people don't have to now as they can just get whatever they like. Just work hard and you will achieve highly and you can just say sod of to all the other class mates who are just down and outs while you are living a great life
