What would make it not possible to sign in and view yahoo messinger or email?

I have a dell with windows vista and I cant sign into me yahoo account nor can I see my contact list on messinger I can sign into messinger I just get an empty window.

Open Messenger and click on the arrow between Contacts and Y!Updates, then click Show Address Book Contacts and Show Offline Contacts both, or one or the other. Choose the best setting for yourself knowing you can always bring up the other listing at will.
