Why are my chat messages get undelivered sometimes?

How do i get back all my messages chat from Messages archive i had saved? please help me to do get i back?

    The default setting causes all messages to be saved as long as you are signed in, but they are DELETED when you sign out (for instance, when you shut down your computer). Your messages were all gone because you did not set your Preferences to save your conversations. YOU CANNOT RETRIEVE DELETED MESSAGES. You can change this setting in the Preferences dialog box: 1.Click "Preferences" on the "Messenger" menu. 2.Click "Archive." The dialog box now displays a description of each archiving option, with radio buttons for selecting one of them. There are also buttons in this dialog box for viewing your archived messages and for instantly clearing the archive. 3.Click the radio button "Yes, save all my messages" and click "OK" or "Apply."
