Is Croydon South East of London?

Is Croydon South east of London?(Or In London?)?

  • Or is it even In London? Someone told me it was outside of London (Greater London is Kinda outside of London right?) and if it is In London, is it in South-east of it? Thanks

  • Answer:

It kind of depends how you define London. The postcode is CR rather than N, S, E or W, so strictly not in London. It is, however an 020 (ie London) phone code, and in the London Borough of Croydon, so in London by those definitions. and yes, it's south and slightly east of central London.

The London Borough of Croydon is almost due South of the City of London and slightly South East of the West End of London (Oxford Street, Leicester Square etc.). Technically Croydon is part of Greater London. See http://www.visitlondon.com/areas/villages/croydon for fun things to do there.

It is directly south of London. There is no break as it were between London proper and Croydon but as far as administration it is in Greater London. It does not have London postcodes (zip codes) but does have London telephone numbers. So you can see that it is a bit of both. As an aside it is a grim, horrible place not worth visiting if you were thinking of doing so.
