Installing aftermarket CD player?

Installing an aftermarket cd player in chevy suburban?

  • I have a '97 chevy suburban with a factory system that has am/fm radio, tape deck and cd player. well the cd player broke and i bought a sony cd player (and i have installed several stereos before) and i purchased a wire harness but when i connect all the wires and install the cd player, the volume comes on full blast. i can turn it down but when i turn it up it goes up all the way instantly and not gradually like its supposed to. also some of the sounds are disabled i have tried the cd player in another car so i know it works properly. any suggestions? do i need to purchase anything extra? by the way the harness i purchased from wal-mart says "'88-up General Motors. Car stereo wiring connector" it also has an antenna adapter included. please help. thank you.
