What is the difference between a 2ohm sub and a 4 ohm sub?

Suggest 2 ohm stable amp for 4 ohm Dual Voice Coil Sub.?

  • I am planing to buy 4 ohm Dual Voice Coil sub 400 RMS and make it Parallel = 2 ohm load. I have search on internet and i have selected KAC-M615D http://au.kenwood.com/Car_Entertainment/Power_Amplifiers/KAC-M615D is this amp 2 ohm stable? if not suggest me 2 ohm stable amp "not much expensive" I think Pioneer GM-7500M is 2 ohm stable but its not D series amp. Is this amp good for 400 RMS 2 ohm sub? Is there any difference in sound quality in mono amp and D series mono amp? OR I can buy 2 ohm Dual Voice Coil sub 400 RMS and make it Series = 4 ohm load. for that which amp i should use. Can i use 2 ohm stable amp for 4 ohm sub? Thanks.

  • Answer:

The amp you picked out is low on power. If I were you, I would find an amp that matches the subwoofer as close as possible. It will give you better sound and of course amplitude! Also, you want to run at the lowest impedance possible, for efficiency and heat reasons. 2 ohm is the way to go here, and should get you a more reasonably priced amp. That being said, Kicker makes a sweet little amp rated 400 watt RMS @ 2 ohm. I've included the link below!
