Cheap 800 RMS 4-ohm amp?

My 12' alpine type r dual 4ohm vc sub is 500 rms,my amp is a mtx thunder150rms@4ohm-300rms@2ohm how can i get

  • what i want to know is how do i hook up my sub to get the 300 rms from the amp? and can my sub be hooked up to get 2ohm if its dual 4ohm vc? and will it sound ok

    You can wire a dual 4-ohm voice coil for 2 ohms by wiring the coils in parallel. Here's a diagram: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/graphics/Support/Tutorials/wiring_images/DVC_Parallel_1.gif It should sound fine with a 300 watt RMS amplifier. Ignore anyone who tells you it's dangerous to underpower a subwoofer; 300 watts will get plenty of output from a Type R if the gains are set right and if it's in the right box.

I have the same Alpine Type-R 12" sub. The box that the sub came in comes with two wires and an instruction guide to bridge it down in parallel without adding an additional sub. Also, I have a MRP-650 Alpine amp that produces 600 watts @ 2ohms and the sub takes every bit of it with no distortion, so you'll be just fine. If you have a sealed box, be sure to use some polyfill in your box so you achieve the highest amount of clarity from your sub/box as possible.
