What is 5.1 channel input?

How do i use regular speaker wire as an input for a four channel amp?

  • I have speaker wire running from the back of my head unit to a three way ON-OFF-ON switch. The other input for the switch comes from my cb radio's PA output. The output from the switch runs to two outdoor powerhorn speakers in the front of my truck. I want to amp them because the internal amp on my head unit isn't very good and i would like the sound coming out of the powerhorns to be louder. I have a four channel amp with a high input connection and i have tried running the switch output to the high input connection. I am fairly new to amps so i'm not sure if i'm just not connecting it right or if something else is causing the problem. If yal can tell me the best way to accomplish this with the amp I already have it would be much appreciated.

  • Answer:

They way you described should work, but you can also look at grabbing a high level to low level adapter, (ask any audio shop for a hi-lo adapter).
