What size speaker wire do I need?

What size speaker wire will work best with my subs and amp?

  • I have 2 - 15" subs that are 700w max. I have a Pyramid 700w Bridgeable 2 channel MOSFET amp. For now its going in my 93 T-bird until I get a new car. But for now, what size speaker wire should I use, and is there anything else specific or special that I need to know?

  • Answer:

Probably 12 or 14 ga it depends how long of a run you have. If it is really long, the thicker the better!

It depends on the amperage

16 gauge will work, but to be safe use 12 to carry the load.

Since you're only pushing ~140 watts RMS, then 16 guage will work fine. The poster below me has a link that really has nothing to do with your question, but I like the link. :)

16 awg is fine. Shoot 18 awg wire will work. Anything over 16 is just overkill.
