How do I make yahoo mail the default in windows XP?

  • Hi, in the past I had yahoo email as my default with windows XP. Not only would yahoo email pop up in a broswer window if I clicked on an email link, but I could right click a file on my desktop and click "send to" and it would bring up yahoo mail with a long directory name on my C drive embedded in the page that I could then cut and paste into yahoo's upload screen. Not too shabby even though that extra cut and paste step was required. Recently I had a hard drive die and re-installed everything. I've never been able to get this feature to work again. I've downloaded a file called "yinst", I've downloaded the new yahoo messenger (which claims to have a program that supports this feature), etc. I haven't come up with any combination that allows yahoo mail to show up as an option in Internet Options-->Program-->Email Any thoughts?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker by Hutson To make Yahoo! Mail the default email application for your computer, click Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs tab (or Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab) > under E-mail click the down arrow and select Yahoo! Mail > click Apply and OK. If Yahoo! Mail isn't listed as an option, follow the directions below. Using Internet Explorer just click "Continue" on the link below to download a small 60K file that will enable Yahoo! Mail to be the default email application for your computer. Whenever you click on an email address on any web page or in any computer program, Yahoo! Mail will open for you in a new window. If Internet Explorer displays a yellow security bar at the top, click on it and select Install ActiveX Control from the menu. If a security warning comes up with Yahoo! Inc. as the publisher, click Install. Now you can click on an email address anywhere and your computer will automatically open up Yahoo! Mail for you. You can even send documents directly from Word, Excel, or other Windows applications.
