How do you add yahoo to the internet options email?

IE on XP internet Options Programs gives 3 choices for email excluding Yahoo. I want Yahoo be default email?

  • now answering ads with email links go to outlook not Yahoo. I want Yahoo.

  • Answer:

If you want to use Yahoo! Mail as your default email client, you have to install a MAPI handler compatible with Yahoo! Mail and you get it by installing Yahoo! Messenger. If you don't want Messenger, don't worry, you can uninstall it immediately -- in fact, you don't have to run it even once. Go here to download Messenger: http://messenger.yahoo.com/download.php When the installer runs, be sure to install the Browser Services: on Step 2 of the installation process, under "Choose Products To Install" choose Custom Install, then check the box next to Browser Services. You don't need to install anything else except Messenger (required) and Browser Services. But if you don't install the Browser Services, you won't get the MAPI handler. On the final installation screen, you can uncheck the box if you don't want Messenger to launch. Verify that the necessary program was installed and configured properly by going to your Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs. If you see 'Yahoo! Internet Mail' and 'Yahoo! Browser Services' in the list, you're all set. While you're in Add/Remove Programs you can go ahead and uninstall Messenger right now if you don't want it on your computer. (Just don't uninstall Yahoo! Browser Services or Yahoo! Internet Mail.) Now you will be able to select Yahoo! Mail in Internet Options.
