My Blackberry Desktop Manager will no longer Sync with Yahoo Address book or calendar?
-
was working fine on April 26th Blackberry Desktop is not connecting to server anymore. I upgrading the software on Blackberry Desktop to try to fix but it did not work. I have a feeling that the new Yahoo Mail is the culprit not recognizing the Yahoo applications on the Blackberry Desktop Manager. This is pure hell for a business man that has been with Yahoo a very long time paying the premium package. What the hell?

Answer:
Happily for you, you have enhanced migration and export options as a premium user of Yahoo. Unhappily, a move and/or data export to a new platform is your likely best option (see below). Apparently, Yahoo and RIM have been having a tiff and sychronization of the native Blackberry Calendar and MemoPad have been discontinued. Yahoo Help's only comment is that this sync functionality "is not supported" (as if it never had been), but myriad users' experience has been that IntelliSync worked just fine until recently, so clearly a decision was made to eliminate the link. This decision appears to have been implemented quietly and in parallel with -- but not as a direct consequence of -- updates to both Blackberry Desktop and Yahoo Mail (now Beta). It does seem to have coincided with, and perhaps been a part of, Yahoo's push-down update of the Yahoo Calendar. For me, the experience has prompted a switch to a new, sync-able Calendar platform (Google). I've stayed with Yahoo mail until because (a) I really had liked the product (including the new Beta mail, despite its slow performance); (b) an auto-reply from Yahoo Mail (directing senders to a new address) is only available to premium users; and (c) the MemoPad and Contact sync functions had still worked until now. As of today, however, MemoPad will no longer sync with Yahoo Notepad, and I have to assume that Contacts syncing will be the next to go. You are not alone in asking about the above. The forums are full of threads, new and old, by frustrated and confused users, and here comes the saddest part of the story. Because the loss of functionality has been without any announcement or warning, much time has been wasted trying to diagnose problems and fix what couldn't be fixed. That these two companies -- and here I mean both Yahoo and RIM -- would treat their users and customers so shabbily is most disappointing. I wish I had better news for you, and I would be delighted if a knowledgable source from within Yahoo were to prove me wrong. In the meanwhile, I've yet to find a single platform that permits me to sync the Blackberry Mail, Calendar, Contacts and MemoPad functions, either via direct (USB) connect or wirelessly in real time (especially for mail and calendar). Google is coming close, but the lack of information and slow progress suggests to me that RIM is not being a good partner or at least "hard to get along with". Perhaps Outlook is the way to go; I'm investigating as we speak. Good luck!
