How to insert pictures to an e'mail?

I am using the photo mail tool to insert photos in my email but cannot see the pictures...?

once I've inserted them in my email, an icon is in their place. I used to be able to see my photos and rotate them when necessary. I can see my photos in all other applications and they have not been deleted from their file. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? this is getting a bit frustrating!
